Gas tanker shipping company Anthony Veder takes first step into LNG | 20 Sep 2006

The Rotterdam-based shipping company Anthony Veder has ordered its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker. This unique vessel will be an LNG tanker for regional distribution, with a capacity of 7,500 cbm. In addition to LNG, the vessel will be able to transport other gases as well, including liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and petrochemical gases, including ethylene. Anthony Veder has entered into a long term contract with the Norwegian LNG distributor Gasnor. The LNG will be transported at minus 163 degrees centigrade. This ship will be very environmentally-friendly because it will use the LNG as fuel, significantly decreasing the emission of exhaust fumes such as the greenhouse gas CO2. Managing Director of Anthony Veder, Jan Valkier, says: "This is a unique project in a potentially growing market. The demand for natural gas will be increasing in the years to come, particularly in regions where there is no dense pipeline network. We wish to fill the gap between the future planned major import terminals and the regional distribution over sea. We are very content with this contract."
