Over the past two years Anthony Veder has been an active partner in the Rotterdam Climate Initiative that has as objective to reduce CO2 emissions by 50% in 2020 compared to 1990 levels. Their role has been in developing a (CO2) Liquid Logistics Shipping Concept (LLSC) together with Vopak that will provide emitters a complete logistical transportation solution for their captured CO2 from their site to an offshore storage location.
In a nutshell, the LLSC will take the captured CO2 from the emitter to an intermediate storage site (ie Port of Rotterdam) via either barges (in liquefied phase) or pipeline (dense phase). From this intermediate storage location (CO2 Hub) the CO2 is shipped by a sea going vessel to the permanent storage sites. The vessel will be able to offload the liquid CO2 to offshore reservoirs or fields on which Enhanced Oil Recovery is applicable. The offshore storage sites can be injected directly from the vessel via a standardized offshore infrastructure and subsea completion or via the existing platforms if appropriate.
At the signing ceremony former Dutch Prime Minister Ruud Lubbers (Chairman of the RCI Council), and Rotterdam Alderman Grashoff (responsible for the environment), who signed the agreement on behalf of the City of Rotterdam as partner of the Rotterdam Climate Initiative, both expressed their excitement and support for the LLSC and the achievement of this step forward for Anthony Veder and cosigners of the letter of cooperation to become first movers in the CCS industry.
