FIRST MULTI PURPOSE SMALL LNG TANKER

The Rotterdam gas shipping specialist Anthony Veder has just taken its first liquefied natural gas (LNG) tanker into its fleet. This vessel represents a world first, in that it can transport LNG but also other gases such as liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and petrochemical gases.

Named the Coral Methane, the vessel will be transporting natural gas for Gasnor, which is the market leader in distributing small parcels of LNG in Norway. Gasnor is currently expanding this business in the northern part of Europe. Gasnor's concept for small-scale LNG production and distribution has seen it become the focus of international attention.

The Coral Methane uses LNG for fuel itself, hence CO2  emmissions are reduced by around 20%. Particles and NOx emissions are also signficantly reduced ( particles by nearly 100% and NOx emissions by approximately 85%).

Coral Methane will be loading at Gasnor's Kollsnes LNG production facility but she can also load at the major LNG import terminals in Zeebrugge, Belgium and Huelva in Spain, as well as other large LNG terminals in Europe.

"For our company this vessel is a big step forward in the distribution of clean energy," said Anthony Veder Managing Director, Jan Valkier. "We think that this is the future because in a lot of places in the world there is no easy access to clean gas and the demand is to small to deliver by pipelines."

"For Gasnor, Coral Methane brings a big opportunity," said Gasnor Managing Director, Eilef Stange. "We believe that re-distribution of LNG from the bigger LNG import terminals in Europe to smaller LNG terminals close to industrial customers and to harbour terminals for fuel for ships, is the future".

Currently, Anthony Veder is working on developing solutions for LNG transport for islands in both the Mediterranean and in the Caribbean.

Gasnor is expanding its business in the northern part of Europe. The Norwegian firm signed a five-year contract in June last year with the Spanish company Iberdrola for loading LNG at the terminal in Huelva, southern Spain.
